read the directions very carefully and watch several installation videos. it was hard to work with the old house Romex solid copper wire as it is very stiff, so get it lined up correctly within the collar and bend it properly takes the right tools, particularly a good wire stripper. and in the videos it recommends using two screwdrivers to line up and turn the collar so that it falls into place. (and have some channel locks if necessary. Also, the unit itself is very heavy and it would be useful to have support for it, one video used a car jack for support. It is in a very tight place and you need all the help . . . .

The item was initially installed by a contractor.The motor made loud noise and had to call customer service to get a replacement. They promptly sent me a new one and I installed it. It’s not so easy to install unless you have good hand strength. The disposal does work well and customer service was excellent!

WARNING: there is a plug in the dishwasher drain inlet. Easy to miss if you don’t read instructions like I don’t.ALSO: for some reason there is a locking tap in the motor unit ring. This can easily be remover by pulling up the rubber gasket, lifting the ring, and filing the small tab off. This may make your install easier for aligning the dishwasher input tube.As to the unit itself, it spins, and feels beefy enough. I replaced an older, cheaper Insinkerator unit that had frozen solid. I doubt it will get much use as I’m no fan of grinding food to put in your pipes that can just as easily go in the garbage. Just more potential plumbing problems. But it might come in handy someday.FINALLY: a good preventative maintenance action is to drop a half a lemon or lime down there and run the unit. The slight acidity will help keep everything clean.
