'A barbed wire-taut, high-voltage trip into the darkest recesses of a demoniacally vengeful soul!’
‘Prison’ (1987) is a no holds barred, barbed wire-taut, high-voltage trip into the darkest recesses of a demoniacally vengeful soul!’Somewhat inexplicably, fairly swiftly after its initial VHS release Renny Harlin’s visually-twisted, remarkably well acted, cerebrum-shocking penitentiary-set splatter-sickie tumbled through the celluloid cracks and remained wrongly imprisoned within the miasma of horror movie history for undeserved crimes against cinema, as back on its original release, and certainly no less effective now, Prison (1987) remains a resolutely shocking midnight movie!C. Courtney Joyner’s muscular script is a remarkably spry affair, wasting little time in putting his desperately beleaguered inmates in the direst jeopardy, namely the hastily re-opened, dangerously derelict Creedmore Prison, whose cracked, mildewed walls and dark interstices contained the murderously volatile spirit of wrongfully executed convict Charlie Forsythe and as anti-hero Burke (Viggo Mortensen) and fellow inmate Sandor (André De Shields) dramatically bust through the long-cemented in walls to the execution chamber Charlie’s indomitable evil is violently unleashed turning the entire prison into his own personal Death Row! As the relentlessly serial killing Forsyth tightens the steel-barbed noose around the increasingly anxious throat of corrupt warden Sharpe (Lane Smith) in his gruesomely engineered, hell-spawned quest to obliterate the prison and all those trapped within it, we can plainly see that director Harlin’s uniquely electrifying horror film still takes no prisoners!Another 80s gem lovingly restored by 88 Films! 10/10!

"..ANOTHER AWESOME 80'S CLASSIC.."
PLOT...After Charles Forsyth was sent to the electric chair for a crime he didn't commit, he forever haunts the prison where he was executed. Flash forward several years when the prison is reopened, under the control of its new warden Eaton Sharpe, a former security guard who framed Charlie. When prisoners are ordered to break down the wall to the execution room, they unknowingly release the angry spirit of Charles Forsyth, a powerful being with a murderous rage to kill all...Yet again another great 80's movie from 88 Films, Directed by Renny Harlin (Die Hard 2, A nightmare on elm street 4) This is a great movie from beginning to end with a simple story of revenge in the form of an entity stalking the old prison, the movie has a decent cast with a few faces from other movies such as Viggo Mortensen (Leatherface Texas Chainsaw Massacre III, A History of Violence) Chelsea Field (Masters of the universe, Death Spa) Kane Hodder is also credited for some stunts and a small unrecognisable cameo, the special effects look great budget, some good practical bloody gore effects, this is a long lost gem from back in the day and highly recommended for the 88 Films collection.Blu-ray looks great in HDFeatures are limited unfortunately with just a trailer and gallery, but the reversible sleeve has great original artwork.Comes in the usual cool black case, Limited edition slipcover with the first lot.Region B only, 103-mins, 1987.English language.
