Product Description The PestBye Advanced Fox Scarer sends out a very loud noise at a frequency that foxes can hear but is too high for most humans to hear. This is annoying and frightening to the foxes but does not affect birds. It is also effective for dogs and cats. Why the motion sensor? The Advanced Fox Repeller incorporates a sophisticated PIR (Passive Infra Red) motion sensor which turns the device on when a warm body enters the controlled area. This has an important purpose other than saving battery life: With the motion sensor, the fox learns to associate the noise with its own movement, and is much less likely to stop being afraid of the noise. What area does it cover? It covers a 120 degree arc, to a distance of up to 52.5ft (16m), giving a total unobstructed working area of (188 Square Metres). How quickly will it work?If the foxes have a habit of feeding and fouling in your garden, it can take 14-28 days to deliver the full deterrent effect. 'Occasional' visitors will usually be stopped within 7 days. Of course, as with all methods involving animal behaviour, we can’t guarantee effectiveness in every situation, however, our own experience and the feedback we get from customers suggests that this device is effective in almost all situations. If you have a dog, it may affect the dog if it's allowed in the same part of the garden. The sound doesn't travel well through walls and fences, so it won't affect a dog in the house, or a neighbour's dog. Batteries:Requires 2 x 9 Volt batteries or optional power supply (not included). Battery life depends on how many times the device is activated, but they typically last 3-4 months assuming 10 activations per day. Batteries aren't supplied as standard.Specification:Coverage area is approximately 188sq metres in a 120° fan shaped arc.DimensionsHeight 17cmWidth 9cm Box Contains 1 x Fox Scarer1 x Ground Stake1 x Instructions

Good when it works, but......
I bought 3 of these. You only have to add the base to the top section, just a push fit, and the spike will hold it steady. The angle of motion detection is good. The first one had an immediate deterrent effect on foxes, which had been fouling my front garden and digging up flower beds, pots etc. All very good, but, it didn't last long. The motion detector developed a fault so that it was activating, falsely, almost continually. That chewed through 4x PP3 batteries in a week. Then it stopped working altogether for no reason I could see. I had carefully opened and installed it, and not disturbed it.Meanwhile, whilst the first one was still working I'd bought another two, to cover my back garden, as I had been very pleased with the first one at the time when I ordered it.Hoping for better, I installed the other two to cover my back garden pretty fully. One of these two has now also failed within 5 weeks - again, the movement sensor has stopped working, so the unit now only works when you press the 'test' button and won't detect anything moving. They also eat up batteries - they use 2x PP3s at a time which last between 1 and 3 months in my experience - and so are not cheap to run; you can, however, power them up by mains if you have that available (mains unit not supplied though).I found that they can be very effective indeed at making your garden area, path, driveway etc unattractive to foxes when they do work. The problem is that they suddenly stop working for no apparent reason after only a short period and at £30 a go, these aren't 'throw away' cheap purchases. I have spent over £90 (including post) on these and now I have one working unit.Do not buy. Too unreliable.

Complete waste of money
Complete waste of money. The batteries ran down very quickly in a few days. The unit initially clicked continuously, regardless of anything in its sensor's path, running down the battery rapidly. After fiddling with it, I seem to have sorted that out, but the batteries were drained a couple of days later. The test button appeared to be broken when I opened the box on delivery. It doesn't work.To top it all, the Foxes are still coming and pooping right in front of this device.I've even seen one fox in daylight, strolling around in the so called scarer's path. Hmmm?As we were away on holiday, just after receiving it and wasn't able to set it up for a few weeks, it's now too late to get my money back.

Don't buy. Waste of money.
Completely useless. As soon as I inserted batteries and switched on the PIR activated and would not stop. After numerous resets, leaving it alone for 10-20 mins, different frequencies - all it did was buzz incessantly.PIR is not exactly cutting edge technology nowadays. It's pretty basic stuff so you have to pretty incompetent to manufacture a simple PIR device that doesn't work. Going straight to the dump.

Very productive unit, works well but only use DURACELL batteriesbecause cheap batteries don't last more than a few days
Had his unit a few weeks now and only one animal mess. We put down scoot initially then set up the unit. The scoot washed away with the rain, to just leave the unit, and so far it's been a good four weeks and a clean garden. We concluded that the fox had to associate going in the garden wih a bad experience. Now been several months with very good results. The only time we get mess is when it is out of range of the unit or the batteries have gone flat. Would strongly recommend buying more than one to cover all areas and if they overlap their areas then the animals will get an even worse noise to listen to. Other than that, we are impressed with the results

Very disappointed!
Well, bought this since we are facing a HUGE fox problem in our front and back yard. They are literally living with us. This repellent hasn't done the job for us and actually the foxes don't even seem to bother, they go and do their things around it. The reason I've rated it with a 2 star and not 1 is this: This repellent has actually worked for many people, but the truth is that in different areas foxes tend to be different. Here in the South East of London it seems they have gotten used to these machines and don't care at all! So it's up to anyone to decide if they want to go for it or not!

Absolutely no effect whatsoever
2 days after installing this I watched a fox walk right in front of it with no reaction whatsoever. According to the test function it is working... it clicks and red light comes on with movement. But it seems the urban fox at least is completely unphased. I could almost see him give me the finger as he looked at me watching him.

Ok but check performance regularly.
The rating relates to the item when it works properly. I have been using one for some time which seems to do what it says on the tin. However I recently sent back another one i ordered because it wasnt working properly, it was continuously pulsing which would obviously drain the batteries quickly. I have a replacement now which seems to be working properly.

Music to their ears
PestBye Advanced Fox Scarer The foxes seem to have got quite attached to these (I bought two). They wander up the garden path, and completely ignore the noise. I know they are working because I can hear them when I go into the garden. They were recommended to me by someone who has had more success, but our foxes are more daring, only one has hesitated, I sometimes have as many as five in the garden. Quite expensive entertainment just for foxes!
