I just received the set a few hours ago and put it to the test. I am a trained caligrapher and have had a substantial collection of professional writing instruments in my day. First things first. The box is handsome and felt-lined. The presentation is top notch and it can be displayed beautifully as it is. The kit comes with a relatively small bottle of black ink, a silverish stand, holder, five caligraphic nibs of various styles, and the quill. The metal that holds the nibs to the quill is solid and hefty, adding a nice balance to the instrument. The nibs change out with little difficulty and seem to hold steady when in use. The base is heart-shaped and nicely decorated. When unpacked and set up, it looks quite stylish. It's about the height of a hardcover book, so it is noticeable on the desk. Now, for performance. The nib holds the ink and I experienced no dripping. The lines were crisp and the ink flow satisfactory. I have to say it feels quite natural in the hand and is easy to maneuver. There is one important caveat to be mentioned, and that is in the assembly of the holder to the base. At the tip of the pen holder is a small plastic piece that screws into the swivel joint on the base. It was not secured inside the holder, so it took some work to attach the holder to the base. Happily, I had ordered a flashlight with the same delivery, and I got to test that as well. For what you get, the price is acceptable. The quality of this piece is outstanding and makes a fine addition to the desk. I have to say, I am quite happy with this purchase. It would be a fine gift or a novel piece to own.

The appearance of the quill is exactly as I had expected. However the quill is a Christmas gift and has not yet been tested for its performance. But so far it is exactly what I had asked for.

I purchased the quill as a birthday gift for my fiancé. He's a major fan of the show Turn on AMC and I thought this quill would be an out of the box gift aside from the typical pair of shoes or gift card. His birthday is actually at the end of the month but I received the quill a few days ago and fell in love. I had to give it to him asap and he's more than thrilled.We both were in awe of its intricate design and dramatically crafted detail. It's truly gorgeous in every aspect from the feather itself to the interchangeable ink nibs. The stand alone was gift worthy and for that, I am genuinely impressed.Also, Qualm contacted me personally to thank me for the purchase, which I find to be very admirable.

My daughter received this quill set as a present for her 9th birthday. She is in love with all things Harry Potter, so we thought this quill would be an interesting addition to her HP memorabilia. She was absolutely thrilled with this set! Without exaggeration, she became quite obsessed with this quill, as she was writing (in cursive, no less), and sending "owls" to us every day during the summer break.The quill has an exquisite look, just like in the pictures. I did not hear any complaints or frustrations from my daughter regarding the way it performs. It does not leak or scratch the paper. Our child is very happy, and so are we. It was money well spent.

Holder for pen keeps collapsing when pen is inserted

It looks so good on my son's desk. It looks exactly like the picture. I ordered it the first time and a piece broke and I received a second one at no charge and it came very fast and in perfect condition. I would order this if you are looking for a good looking quill pen that works great.

Absolutely beautiful. I have no complaints about any part of this transaction. It arrived on time, items came in a very nice gift box, it is lined with I'm guessing, satin. It does come with black ink, 5 calligraphy nibs and one in the pen. They followed up with an email making sure I was satisfied with the product. If someone enjoys writing the old school way this is the perfect gift for them. So very well worth the price.

I was very satisfied with the quill, particularly with the quality of the feather. The one issue I noticed was the length of the plastic cover on the feather was insufficient to cover the whole thing, leading to some mild ruffling and messiness at the base of the feather; however, this was most likely an out of the ordinary mishap. Overall, very nice quill set.
