12" Record - Cleaner Replacement Vacuum Tube

Bought this tube to replace the cracked and beat-up tube I had on my VPI-17. This tube appears to be of higher quality plastic and slightly improved shape. I can't remember my old tube having a beveled insert edge or fitting so well ( I think that's why my original was cracked in that it was slightly too large for the hole ) but this part slid right in with a twist and remains tight.Although the price ( $30 ) was steep I think it's been 15 years since my last one was new so at two dollars a year usage cost I can live with the hit to my pocketbook.By the way, if you are buying one of these and your record cleaner is more that 20 years old and doesn't draw like it used to, take the machine apart and check to see if the foam 'bonnet' around the circular fan intake has deteriorated. If so you will have to engineer a fix that covers around both holes ( I used 1/4" black padding with an adhesive backing bought here on Amazon ). You might have to open a notch in the foam connection between the two to control excessive vacuum but once fixed your machine will pull like new. Just replace your old tube, with this. My vinyl was dry, and sounded great. When this one wears out, I will get another from this seller.

This works but is not of the same quality as the original that came with the machine. I have owned my VPI for 6 years now and this is the first replacement tube I purchased and because of the cost for this piece of plastic it will be the last. In the past I purchased the Nitty Gritty Vac Sweep Replacement Kit, cleaned the original tube and installed the Nitty Gritty pad and have not seen any difference. You get 4 pads for a lot less money.

Bought three replacement tubes in four months and all three snapped where they are held in place. Poor quality and makes me think I need to ditch the VPI brand altogether and upgrade to an Okki Nokki or Pro-Ject. I love supporting US businesses, but the lack of quality is ridiculous.

This is a part of the cleaning machine that has to be replaced on a regular basis, say after a few hundred cleanings. This one came quickly, was in a perfect shape, and I have used it on dozens of LPs already. Once it wears out, will order from the same vendor again.
